Clearly Terence Maskell directs a splendid group of singers that has expanded to include 35 voices of all ages drawn from greater Auckland, representing its multi-ethnic community by both membership and breadth of repertoire. This, their second CD, presents a broad range, from substantial items like Stanford’s For lo, I raise up, with its formidable organ accompaniment, and Brahms’s exquisitely sung Geistliches Lied op.30 to an extended Maori welcome song, Karanga, by David Hamilton, complete with conch shell, and two pieces from a cycle by another NZ composer, Christopher Marshall. A booklet error omits details of two tracks.
