Well actually, Gluck’s tercentenary risks being overshadowed, so Decca’s luxurious repackaging of seven operas (including both versions of the Orfeo story) is especially welcome. Gardiner has the lion’s share, his pair of Iphigénies in particular having long been at the top of many wishlists; yet Minkowski’s live Armide is a treasure, as is McCreesh’s less well-known Paride ed Elena. With a bonus disc of historical and serendipitous arias, this is a must-have.
