Famed for his work for the stage, this disc takes us from the Verdian Padre nostro written in his teens to the lush, Straussian music to a portmanteau ballet of 1930. Noseda has championed Mascagni before, and his passion for (and pride in) this repertoire shines through every bar. Anyone who loves Italian music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries should sample without delay.
