This third disc in Noseda’s Casella survey features one of the composer’s key late works, the neoclassical third symphony. Commissioned for the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Symphony, this huge score was championed by conductors including Furtwängler; it’s unlikely to have received as fine a performance as on the present disc. The folksong-inspired Italia calls to mind Ravel and Respighi, and makes a welcome coupling.
