Peteris Vasks is the most recognised Latvian composer of his generation. This CD brings together five works from the present decade: Da pacem, Domine, Mein Herr und mein Gott, Laudate Dominum (all from 2016), Prayer (2011) and The Fruit of Silence (2013). Once again Sigvards Klava and his Latvian Radio Choir, together with the Sinfonietta Riga, demonstrate their unassailable command of this repertoire. The choir’s commitment to this music is exemplary, their tone even and perfectly balanced across all voices. Klava has long known how to extract the best from this polished group of professionals, and their latest disc only enhances his and the Latvian Radio Choir’s already considerable reputation. Vasks must count himself fortunate indeed to be able have such accomplished native performers on hand.
