André Isoir died last year leaving a legacy of some 60 recordings, including the complete works of many significant composers. This re-release from La Dolce Volta includes all the major works published in Franck’s lifetime (for the complete works you will want to supplement your collection with Elke Völker’s new recording, reviewed above). Although recorded in the 1970s, these recordings are of high quality and the 1857 Cavaillé-Coll is not a bad choice of instrument. It has to be said that there are now better Franck recordings on the market. While Isoir is relatively faithful to the scores, I do question some of the registrations used and find certain pieces quite uneven rhythmically.
