This is a beautifully textured programme that brings together Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols with seven antiphons by Arvo Pärt, Christmas songs by Heinrich Kaminski and Francis Poulenc, and a gorgeous reworking of Michael Praetorius by Jan Sandström, plus a couple of anonymous pieces from the 15th century. It takes intelligence as well as ‘eclecticism’ to bring off a set so varied, but Creed and his singers manage it with distinction in a beautifully paced and delivered recording that deserves an outing whatever the season.
