Praetorius celebrates three of that name – Hieronymus, Jacob and Michael – in this terrific tribute from Pablo Heras-Casado. Nimble, elegant, passionate singing from the Balthasar-Neumann-Chor and subtle, sinuous support from their fine band enhance the amorous implications of the Song of Songs settings that, along with two Magnificats, make up the programme. There are suitably robust acoustics, allowing for interesting spatial effects, and it’s all balanced and ordered with flow and power.
