There’s no want of lustre on The Sixteen’s third and final volume of Monteverdi’s Selva morale e spirituale , applying an iridescent sheen reminiscent of Murano glass on performances of great joie de vivre – an effervescence which almost overflows in the final Magnificat (Primo). The lively acoustics in no way impede the limpid clarity of the recording and there’s so much affirmation here, evoked by virtuosic singing and playing suggestive of faith and forward motion, that one almost forgets this is a British ensemble.
