This ‘album’ is a collection of pieces from a former Classic FM composer-in-residence to commemorate the first world war, drawing on the story of the mysterious ‘Angel of Mons’, an apparition that drew British soldiers away from danger. Two tracks deserve approbation, both pleasingly performed by the Oxford choir, one through which Clio Gould’s violin provides an elegant ostinato. The rest is incidental, a collection of wayward songs and piano pieces. The fine solo voices could find better material.
