Opus Arte’s 25-DVD Wagner Edition brings together ten recent Wagner productions to form a complete collection of the mature operas, also offering a varied look at contemporary stagings, several of them individually much admired. Here are Nikolaus Lehnhoff’s Lohengrin and Parsifal from Baden-Baden and his Tristan und Isolde from Glyndebourne, for instance, plus David McVicar’s relatively traditional Meistersinger from the same address. The Royal Danish Opera presents Kasper Holten’s Tannhäuser and the visually spectacular Ring comes from Barcelona’s Liceu courtesy of La Fura dels Baus; Zubin Mehta conducts. Right at the cutting-edge is Martin Kušej’s Fliegende Holländer from the Netherlands Opera.
