Continuing his series of the later Bruckner symphonies, Barenboim and his remarkable orchestra reach the sixth in what is almost a complete success. His is a typically large-scale reading, and benefits from the glorious brass and sumptuous strings (those violas!) familiar to Proms listeners last year. If there are recordings that better capture the variety of mood and emotional range of the piece, none has been captured in such rewarding sound (or filmed as sensitively).
